A new Niece

Justin could not come with us to Chicago for the marathon, and it's a good thing he didn't, because Beth, our sister-in-law, went in to labor Sunday morning.  I was devastated when he told me and I realized I wouldn't be able to make it in time to meet our niece, but I was able to meet her that night.  Colt was so excited to meet her and give her a present her bought her.
Emily Jane Strange was born Sunday morning to Josh and Beth.  She was almost 4 weeks early, but 7 pounds 13 ounces!  I heard Beth did wonderfully and everyone was ecstatic to meet her.  Colt absolutely loves to hold her and kiss her!  We are so happy to have you baby Emily!

Keaton's Marathon

Keaton, my brother who has never run more than a mile in his life, decided to sign up for the Chicago Marathon to raise money for clean drinking water.  He HATES running.  The first time he went for a run after he singed up, he made it a half mile.  A marathon is 26.2 miles!  He trained for months.  The marathon was last weekend, so Colt, my mom and I went up to see him run and support him.  It was a cold day, but such a cool thing to be a part of!  Keaton did awesome.  We were so proud of him!  Colt, mom, Keaton's girlfriend Abby and I cheered for him several times throughout the race and were able to watch him finish.  It was one of the proudest moments of my life as his sister.  We love you Uncle Keaton!

Last trip to the zoo

Our membership is about to expire and since I was going back to work full-time, Colt and I had a date day.  It is crazy to see how much has changed in this last year.  The things he liked when we first got the membership compared to now are similar but he has found some new favorites too.  Thanks again Uncle Josh and Aunt Beth!  We also had a few hours to kill at the Children's Museum.  He loves the new Hot Wheels exhibit and of course, Bumble Bee!
Still loves the fish

An end and a beginning

I have been so blessed to have been able to stay home with Colt for as long as I have.  I have gradually faded back in to the working world and rediscovered my love for ABA.  I started taking graduate classes this summer.  It has been very time consuming and more work than I expected, but I am learning a lot.  The classes will prepare me to take a certification exam to be able to write programs and assess the kids at the Autism center.  Unfortunately, part of being qualified for the exam is that you need to be supervised on the job for 9 months to a year, which requires me to go back to work full-time.
I had mixed feelings about it.  I was really enjoying the job share I had been doing with another mom.  At the same time, I was really enjoying the work I did and Colt was loving his friends at day care.  I felt like all we did on our weeks off was run errands to try to make up for the time when I was working, and we weren't really enjoying time at home together anyway.
So carefully, and with much prayer and many conversations, Justin and I decided I would go back to work full-time.  It would alleviate a lot of the financial stress, allow us to have insurance through my work, and enable us to put away some money for retirement.
I have now been able to be in the position for 2 weeks and can confidently say, I am loving everything about it.  I never thought I would be a working mom, much less a working mom who is going to school at the same time.  In fact, nothing would be further than what I had hoped for my time as a mother.  But God has an amazing way of showing me that I am not in control and that He has great plans for me and our family.
I am happy to be making a difference in the lives of kids with Autism and to be able to train therapists as well as learn more from other people with so much knowledge and experience in the field.  Continue to pray for us as we transition in to our new lives, but so far, we are loving it!  God continues to surprise me everyday!
Just had to end with a picture of my amazing son!

Goodbye curly hair

Most people tell me how cute Colt's hair is, but he got called a girl 4 times in a week, so I decided it was time for a hair cut.  He has had his hair cut before, and did great, but I took him somewhere new this time.  He LOVED Cookie Cutters and the Thomas seat.  He looks so much more grown up!

Big boy bed

When we moved in to the new house, we decided we should go ahead and transition Colt to a regular bed.  We were pretty nervous about how he would adjust, but he did great!  He kept telling us about HIS bed, and telling us to get out of it.  When we left his room, he ran to the gate at his door and cried for a while, but he slept in the bed and we haven't been back since.  We are so proud of him.
