rough

Colt has had a few rough days this week.  Now that he is a rolling machine (only when it's bed time) he has had a lot of trouble sleeping.  Everytime he tries to find his thumb, he accidently rolls over and then he can't get comfortable.  As a substitute for his thumb- because apparently it is too difficult to find on your stomach- he has started to suck his pointer and middle finger.  I had decided I would get over the fact that he was a thumb-sucker, but I refuse to let him suck the rest of his fingers.  But regardless, he is so uncomfortable and can't fall asleep- which is breaking my heart.  I have spent a few nights sitting at his bedside crying because I don't know what to do.
Add that to the fact that he must be going through a growth spurt, because he is constantly starving.  When he is done eating (or so I think) I sit him up to burp- and there are horrifying cries!  He is so hungry!  So I called the lactation consultant, my mom and looked online.  Finally, I found some advice and I think the problem was I wasn't drinking enough water- so I guess we will see if it gets better.  But if all else fails, they say to drink beer (ugh!)
On a better note- Colt found his feet last Sunday.  I wasn't sure and I thought it was an accident, but all week he has been holding on to his feet.  He just loves them :)
A good story- I had to go to the bathroom so I laid Colt down on a blanket.  When I came back, he had rolled over on to his stomach and was looking up at the tv- this kid is something else!
And lastly, a quote from me- as Colt screamed in my face- "I don't know how this kid breathes with buggers this size in his nose."

here we go...

We put Colt to bed a little early tonight- he was hungry early and we decided just to go ahead.  He "talked" to himself for a while, which is kind of normal, but after 30 minutes, I was beginning to wonder why he wasn't sleeping- so I went to check on him.  When I got to his room, I found him face down in the crib!  I screamed, which scared him and alarmed Justin.  I was slightly horrified, but also in complete shock because it was the first time he has rolled from his back to his stomach.  So, after rolling him back over, I came back downstairs to write the date down before I forgot, and heard him again.  Of corse, I was nervous.  So Justin went up to check on him, and... he was ace down again!  I guess I am sleeping in his room tonight.  Ah- the joys of parenthood!  Goodnight all- sleep well for me :)

Visiting Keaton

This weekend Colt and I went with my dad and Delaine to visit Keaton in Chicago.  I hadn't been to see him since he moved there, so it was great to see him and his apartment.  First we stopped at the hotel he works at (The James- very fancy!) and said hi.  I am so proud of him!!  He moved to Chicago to be a producer, but is working at the James to pay the bills.  Bottom line- it is a pretty cool job and he is doing great at it.  Friday morning, Keaton, dad and I went for a run along Lake Michigan- yea... it was pretty awesome- much better than running around my neighborhood.  Then we went for breakfast at Tweet.  Keaton had to go to work, so we rode the L downtown and went shopping and then met up with him for dinner at Quartino's.  He also got us pizza from Giordano's just in case we wanted that!  How nice!
The weekend went way too fast, but it was so good to see Keaton.  I miss him so much now that he isn't as close to home, but it was so great to be able to have him show us around his new home.  It was also really fun to get to spend time with dad and Delaine :)  Thanks everyone for an awesome weekend.

As soon as Keaton walked in the door he asked to hold Colt- he is such a good uncle!

BEST.JOB.EVER.

Today was possibly the best day I have had as a stay-at-home mommy.  Colt was a bundle of fun since the moment he woke up.  It was bath day- which he didn't enjoy as much as usual, but after that, we had a blast!  I gave him a "massage" with Burt's bees baby oil (just as much fun for me as it is for him).  He loved it.  When I turned him over on his belly to rub his back, he pushed himself up and then rolled over :)  I laughed at him, put him back on his belly- and he did it again, and again and again.  I think I counted 12 times he rolled over.  Then I was busy laughing and him and taking pictures, and he peed all over his blanket! :)  Oh yea, and I forgot to mention, he peed in his bath too!
He has also started really reaching for toys.  He has a new favorite dinosaur stuffed animal that we bought yesterday while we had to vacate the house to bomb for fleas.  I told the lady at Von Maur that I guess if he reaches for it and puts it in his mouth- we better buy it.  But now he is reaching for everything!  It has been amazing to watch him blossom so much in these last few days.  He is like a whole new baby.  Days like today make me so thankful to be at home with him.  Thanks Justin for being an amazing husband and daddy!

Happy Valentine's Day

Well, Winston has fleas again!  I found a flea on Colt's sleeve today when we were reading... so Winston got a flea bath and we bombed the house.  When I dropped Winston off, he was VERY excited to see other animals.  It was also his first bath at a pet store- and he isn't a fan of them at home, so I was a little nervous.  When I went to pick him up, they informed me that he was pretty hyper and has food allergies.  Once I got home, I noticed he had a nice little Valentine's day bow on his collar. :)
On another note, Justin and I celebrated Valentine's Day at home this year.  He was so nice- bought me chocolate covered strawberries from Edible Arrangements, picked up Texas Roadhouse rolls and made an amazing dinner.  Then he got me a card from Colt and traced his hand in it.  It was so cute!  It was an amazing dinner and an awesome Valentine's Day!

Mini

I told my dad that if he was going to run the mini marathon this year, then I would do it with him.  I was secretly hoping he wouldn't do it because my last experience was a little rough, but a promise is a promise.  So, I started training today.  It has been difficult to run with it being so cold and icy outside, not to mention- Colt!  So let's just say it was a little rough today, but here's to hoping that each day will get a little easier.

They told me to...

Everyone said this was blog-worthy, so here it goes.  I cut all my hair off this week, so I will put a picture up.  I promised myself I wouldn't get my hair cut short once I had kids, but I cut it every spring anyway, and I was tired of finding spit up in it, so I did it.

Justin and I went to a fundraiser for Second Harvest Food Bank- it was nice to get all dressed up for once :)

Growing up so fast

Time is flying by!  Colt has been changing so much over the last few weeks.  He continues to laugh all the time and smiles at his parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles.  He is starting to enjoy tummy time more.  He is holding his head up a lot more during tummy time and yesterday he rolled over ALL on his own!  I will post a few videos and pictures.  Hope you all enjoy!

A few endorsements...

This is the section that I should get paid for!
My friend Lainey told me about a book that she read when she had her son.  It's called BABYWISE.  Something you should understand about our relationship is that we met when we were working for as "behaviorists" for children with autism.  So- we believe in the power of shaping behavior.  The gist of the book is that babies can have their behavior shaped in a way that benefits them and the parents.  You do this by putting the baby on a flexible schedule.  I think it is a hard concept for some to grasp, but I just have to say that I am a HUGE believer in it!!!
We put Colt on a flexible 3 hour schedule- he eats every 3 hours and after each feeding- he stays awake for 1.5 hours and then takes a nap for 1.5 hours- then start all over.  It took some getting used to and we had to go through a few weeks of frustration- trying to keep Colt awake during awake time and getting him used to not being held all the time during his naps.  BUT... it has worked so well!  He started sleeping 8 hours a night the night he turned 10 weeks old.  And the night he turned 13 weeks, he started sleeping 10- 10.5 hours a night.  So- I HIGHLY recommend BABYWISE.
Next... I was watching Ellen when Ryan Gossling was on telling about the gift he bought for everyone in his family.  They were called Jumpin Jammerz and they are footy pajamas with hoods- for adults!  Justin had been asking for one all Winter, so I took the rest of my Christmas money and bought him one.  It is so warm!  He may not be happy when I post the pic, but it is funny :)  So I hope you enjoy it!

Colt's first night in his crib!  We haven't looked back since!

I really need to get better at this...

So- blogging really isn't my thing, but I am going to try to be better.  I always think of things I need to put on here, and then I forget!
We have been working hard on tummy time and rolling over.  I was getting discouraged that he wasn't getting it, but all the sudden one day last week he started holding his head up so well!  He looks all around the room and he is always trying to find the tv (he loves to watch tv with daddy!).
Today during tummy time he rolled over all by himself!  It has been amazing to watch him grow.  I thought he may have been a little behind, but Justin reminded me that he laid in a hospital bed for over a week and so far- he seems to be just about 1-2 weeks behind on just a few things.  Crazy how all my work at the hospital still didn't prepare me for the reality of my own son being in that situation.
We are so happy with how he is doing and progressing and continuing to pray that he doesn't have any more health problems.  As always, I'll leave you with a few pics :)

tummy time is not his favorite, but he is a trooper!

Just trying to eat his links :)
