Fun With The Grandparents

I was a bridesmaid in my friend Keather's wedding last weekend!  More on that later.  We left Colt with Chuck and Sue for the night and Justin and I stayed downtown for the night.  Our first overnight date together since he was born!  It was amazing.
We went to pick up Colt on Sunday and we walked in to see a very happy baby and this...
Justin's dad made him his own house!   He loved it!  We could tell he had so much fun with them and it was nice for Justin and I to spend some time together.

Today is my mom's birthday, so Colt and I took her to Brown County- her favorite place.  Unfortunately, I am a horrible daughter and didn't get any pictures of her and I together.  But here are some cute ones of Colt.

Buh-Bye

We are saying buh-bye to sucking our thumb this week!  One of Justin's aunts told me all her kids sucked their thumbs and when they turned one she put gloves on their hands for a week and they stopped.  Ever since Colt got sick he has been sucking his thumb like crazy.  I couldn't get a picture without it in his mouth, so I decided it was time.  But... no gloves, so we used socks.  So far, he is doing awesome!  He doesn't mind when I put them on, but he still puts his thumb in his mouth occasionally.  So far, so good.

Walking

On Thursday (September 15) Colt started walking.  He had taken a few steps here and there in the weeks before, so we thought it might be coming, but all the sudden, he was walking across the room.  I came home from Bible study and he was in such a good mood.  I sat down in the recliner and he walked from the couch to me.  So Justin and I started messing around and seeing how far he would go.  We sat on opposite sides of the living room and he took 10 steps toward Justin!  I got up to go to the bedroom, Justin started yelling for me to turn around, and there he was... walking down the hall behind me.  Since then he was been so adventurous and walking everywhere.  He loves his new independence.  The only thing he doesn't like is wearing shoes!  But he thinks he is so funny because he can chase Winston around the house.  It is so awesome to watch him grow up.  He seems like such a big kid now.
I got it on video, but.... I realized my camera broke when I went to get it out to record him.  So hopefully this one off my point and shoot will do.
    Great Job Colt!

Poor Guy

Colt is still sick.  After we discovered he was allergic to Penicillin, they put him on Omnicef.  After a few days of that, he was definitely getting better but I noticed that his stool was completely red.  We got back in to the doctor, and she told us to stop the Omnicef and collect cultures to send to the lab.  Let me just tell you how much fun that was and how helpful Justin was... ha!  So we waited, and found out that he had C. Diff.  Without too many details, his previous symptoms resolved and we started him on a medication for the C. Diff.  Well, of course, his sinus infection came back.  We waited and waited to see if it would get better, but the poor guy is even worse than before.  So, back on the Omnicef and staying on the C. Diff medication and hoping for the best!  And the sweet kid never cries or complains :)

Keeping Up

Stuff is changing around here.  Colt got a new car seat (we're not sure if we like it or not).  He was way too long for his old one, and this one is definitely bigger.  He has 4 teeth and looks so old.
Justin got a promotion at work!  He is the Vice President of Sales at the Evelo Team.  We are so proud of him and all his hard work.  He is really busy and it makes for some lonely days and nights, but he wants to do a great job for the people he serves.
I am thinking about going back to school.   I have been researching what classes I am missing and what all it will take for me to become a nurse!  It is something I have thought about for a long time, so we will see if it all works out.
I'll post lots of random pictures and a video of bath time!

So Cute!!

Not so sure...

Getting Better....

Love It!

Canada Round 2

Since Keaton is no longer at his hotel job, he had a little more flexibility in his schedule and wanted to go to Canada.  He hadn't been in 2 years!  So Keaton, my mom, Colt and I made the drive on Labor Day weekend.  It was not nearly as smooth of a trip as the last time.  Colt did not sleep through the night and made it a frustrating trip for everyone.  Of course, he was ready to go when we got there.
When we arrived, it was an overcast, dreary day with a little drizzle.  We made it just in time and got a boat taxi out to the island  right before the rain came down.  I wish I could take a good picture of it, because the island is absolutely the most beautiful place to watch a storm come in.  It was so fun to sit on the front porch and watch the rain come down.  My Uncle Craig arrived on the island just a few hours after us.  It was fun to have everyone there.
The first night we were there I thought Colt was acting a little funny so we took his temperature... yep.. 100.5.  He usually runs like 97 so I knew he wasn't doing too well.  We work up the next morning and took it again and it was 102.  We went through the day and did some work around the island and just hung out.  The night we had homemade ice cream (an island tradition) and Colt got his first taste.  Let's just say he LOVED it and there were plenty of people there who wanted to give him some.  He went from person to person reaching for their ice cream!
The next morning we took his temperature again and it was 103, so we decided that we should come home and get him to the doctor.  The trip was shorter than I was hoping and I was so sad to leave, but we needed to make sure Colt was ok.  The trip home was even worse than the trip up.  Colt screamed and cried for HOURS!  We finally made it home at 6:30 in the morning.  I got to sleep for 2 hours and then we got up to go to the doctor.  They said he had a sinus infection.  They prescribed him an antibiotic and we went home.
When I woke him up the next day, he had a rash all over his body.  Apparently he is allergic to Penicillin.  The doctor said it was the fastest she had seen someone have an allergic reaction.  So we got a new medicine and he seemed to do better.  Three days later, his stool was bloody and red and we had to take him back to the doctor again.  We think we finally have it figured out.  Poor guy!
I'll post some pics from the trip.  Enjoy

Live.Learn.Love

I have seen the phrase a million times, but it is so true as a wife, mom, daughter and sister.  This post is a note to myself, several years down the line, when I wonder what in the world my life used to be like.
  •  Every night when I rock Colt before bed, I think to myself- I truly am the luckiest mom in the world!  As my mom always said  "I always did feel sorry for the other moms"
  • I used to think being the mom of a 6 month old was the coolest thing ever... not true.  Being the mom of a 10 month old is even cooler.
  • Colt was sick this week.  After taking him to the ER and to the doctor, we found out he had a sinus infection.  I felt helpless and frustrated.  Like I should have all the answers and know what was wrong... I'm his mom!  This is where the Live.Learn.Love comes from- you just have to roll with the punches, learn as you go and love life along the way.  Colt would scream for hours in the car, hang on my leg and refuse to let anyone else hold him.  And yet, I would look at him and love him with everything I have, because he is my son.
  • I clean up toys about 10 times a day.  Not sure why I even bother.
  • The thought of wasting money drives me crazy.  But I got so excited when I bought Colt size 6-18 month socks and they didn't fit.  Can't wait to spend money and buy him even bigger ones.
  • I have no idea what I did with all my time before I had a house and a family!
  • I love being home with Colt, but I get a little stir crazy most days.  I am a little nervous about being home all winter.
  • Running is my escape.  I ran in the rain today.  There is something about running in the rain that makes me feel alive.
  • I have really good friends... I mean really good friends.  And I am afraid of losing them.  I know life brings changes and I want to make sure I stay close with all of them.
Live.Learn.Love
  • Bible study once a week has been HUGE for me.  I have grown a lot and I really enjoy getting to spend some time with other women who value their faith too.

Play Date

Colt and I had our first play date today.  I was so excited!  My friend Amy was going to the sprinkler park with the scrubmates (wives of residents) and invited Colt and I to come.  I packed a lunch for Colt, got all our bags in the car and off we went.  The sprinkler park was so fun.  They had a 1 inch lazy river that Colt and Tina played in most of the time.  We left after just a little while because it was supposed to be 98 degrees!  So we went to the Children's Museum.  It was Colt's first time and Amy had a family pass so we got in free with them.  He hung out in Playscapes most of the time since it is made for little kids.  He and Tina crawled all over and had a blast.  I will definitely be scheduling more play dates!
It looks like Colt is touhing Tina's butt!

Kitchen Accomplished

The kitchen is DONE!  We are so pleased with how it turned out.  The cabinets match the appliances so well.  We thought we may have to get new countertops to match, but it actually looks good.  Hindsight is 20/20 but I am really glad we did it.  Here it is...
